I saw the MLM industry for the first time about 18 years ago and knew instantly it was for me. I didn't sleep for 3 days. My first exposure was the "A" company. Long story short; great training and some life-long friendships.
Over the years I built two successful MLM businesses only to have the companies fail me. In 1991 I was a partner in an MLM venture which was sold in 1994. I belonged in the field as a customer/distributor where I was happiest.
I wandered in the desert for 2 more years trying this company and that comp. plan. I developed a very good evaluation check list which I still use to quickly disregard 98% of what I look at. I can count on the fingers of one hand the companies that would seriously get my attention.
Young Living Essential Oils found me in December 1996. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven and that is where I still am today. Totally happy, having more fun than I ever dreamed possible and making more money than I ever did in my life.
The secret? Good strong, unique product line; in fact a product line that is very hard to duplicate in the industry coupled with very strong mission and very fair compensation plan.
I developed a "customer" philosophy as opposed to a "distributor" philosophy; building a customer organization of product buyers as opposed to distributors selling stuff. It has served me well over the years. Many have followed and built very successful customer organizations. I don't like a lot of meetings and still don't do follow-ups. It's not my personality. I decided when I got involved with this company, "to thine own self be true" and have never looked back. I'm just a messenger.

Before I started my business with Young Living in 1996, I was working odd jobs and couldn't make ends meet at the end of the month. I was in debt and worried about my future. Life hasn't always been easy for Ben and Carol Howden. Carol, who was ill, was referred to Young Living distributor Lorna Koontz to discuss essential oils and their ability to enhance wellness and change lives. Initially reluctant, Carol explains, "At the time, I was very skeptical and hesitant. My nephew, his wife, and another friend had previously talked to me about essential oils, and I was so closed minded that I didn't give it any consideration."
Like many who are initially leery of natural health remedies, Carol became a believer. She left Lorna's home uplifted and recalls being in a much better mood after experiencing the oils. Carol felt compelled to learn more and has been a distributor since 2000.
Carol's husband, Ben, took a little longer to follow in his wife's footsteps. How Erica and Brandon Hall’s Young Living business caught them when the economy crumbled
When Erica and Brandon Hall, Young Living Golds, casually began building their Young Living business more than a decade ago, they never anticipated it would be the one thing to save them from financial ruin.
Brandon’s mom—Susan Hall from “3 Wise Men Company of Angels,” also a Young Living Gold—introduced him and Erica to Young Living as a way for Erica to stay home with their children. It would just keep her busy, and maybe provide additional funds for discretionary spending. They were quite surprised when, as their interest and passion for Young Living products grew, so did their commission check.
“Honestly, I didn’t take much interest in it at first,” confesses Brandon, an Arizona real estate broker and owner of his own real estate firm. “It was Erica’s deal to keep busy. Then we started getting checks. And then they started getting bigger. We began actually getting familiar with some of the products, and the checks started getting really big. That’s when I started paying attention to Young Living as a serious business.”
Erica and Brandon really got involved when they traveled to Salt Lake City for 2008 Grand Convention. “We were really pumped to meet Gary and Mary, and see Marcella [Vonn Harting, a long-time family friend] speak professionally,” says Brandon. “We were really impressed, and I began to get involved. Erica had gotten the business started, but I got into helping her host oil parties and other things.”
“We began working on programs and presentation techniques, and bringing members of our downline to hear Marcella,” Brandon continues. “We made it a goal to learn the compensation plan, and became familiar with it.”
It was shortly after this convention that the economy began to suffer. Among the hardest hit of all industries was real estate, and Brandon’s business. “To make ends meet many of my Realtors were taking second jobs as waiters, and I didn’t have to do that. We have three daughters [Tatum, 11; Kensington, 8; and Kelton, 5] and I don’t know what we would have done without our Young Living business. We would have lost our home. We would have been out on the street. Thankful doesn’t express the way we feel. It’s so much more than that. I don’t know what we would have done without Young Living, or the hard work and devotion of our leaders, and our distributors.”
That experience really supplied Erica and Brandon with a newfound conviction towards home-based businesses. And with this perspective came the opportunity to further grow their organization. “Corporate America isn’t always stable,” says Brandon. “Younger people are seeing this and realizing that they need the freedom to stay at home and build their own business, and help people at the same time.” Erica adds, “It’s not just a product. When my kids ask me to explain what I do, I tell them, ‘You know how your dad worked with real estate? Well, I’m like a real estate agent for Mother Earth.’”
Their love for their three girls, and commitment to keeping their lives as free of toxic chemicals as possible, is another big point of interest for Erica and Brandon. “We want to raise awareness, and make sure families know they have toxin-free alternatives for their children,” explains Erica.
“All children are required to bring a hand sanitizer to school. Our girls have the Thieves® Hand Purifier, but so many children are using chemical-based sanitizers. That’s our next goal, is to bring Young Living to parents through their children. I also work as a substitute teacher, and am working to introduce teachers to diffusing oil blends like Thieves instead of resorting to chemical-based disinfectant sprays.”
Erica and Brandon’s once lighthearted venture has now turned into so much more. When the chips were down they were still able to support their family with a product line they could feel good about. And now Brandon says, “When the market picks back up brokering will just be a hobby.” Erica chimes in, “Brandon’s income can contribute to savings—our goal is to get to Platinum!”

Back in 1990-91 I was in Russia and Ukraine planting churches and teaching Bible. It was a time that changed the direction of my life. For it was in Ukraine that I first learned about essential oils. I want to share a little of that experience with you, because it was through that experience that God's Healing Word ministry
eventually was founded.
I traveled by train (always accompanied with a KGB agent,
though I didn't know it at the time). My interpreter, made all plans and lined up accommodations with local towns people ahead of time.
I spoke in public halls through my interpreter, held private Bible studies, and boarded with locals in their homes (called Dachas). It was a special time as people were hungry to hear God's Word for the first time. Many times, there was standing room only in the places I spoke. Though gratified, I knew it wasn't the "Americana" they came out for, though most of them had never seen one, they wanted to hear God's Word. They wanted a Bible of their own.
In my travels I noticed no drugstores as we are accustomed to seeing here in the U.S. What I saw instead were small bottles of essential oils of various kinds sitting on shelves in the homes I stayed at. When I inquired what these bottles contained and what they were for, I was told the bottles contain essential oils and are used for healing and medication. How strange I thought, but it did make sense being there were no drugstores. This was my first
introduction to healing oils I had read about in the Bible.
When I asked where the oils came from and how they acquired
them, here's what I was told. Being the U.S.S.R., every able person several times a year (No matter where they lived) were conscripted to gather in towns and be given an assignment. That assignment might be to plant or harvest vegetables, cut and bale hay, or gather specific kinds of wild plants to be distilled into healing oils. This is how the Soviet Union operated at the time, and how people earned shares of the harvest.
I was told many villages had at least one community owned oil distiller. As plants were gathered, trained people would distill oil from the plants. Everyone then who helped gather the plants were given shares of the oil. People had to bring their own bottles to collect the oil. This is how people were able to self medicate as
pharmacies as we know them were non-existent.
What I found fascinating is people kept oil recipe books next to their oil bottles, so they could create blends of oils for specific uses. These recipes were shared with family members and passed down one generation to the next. These oils were highly cherished, because as I was told, many lives would otherwise be cut short.
When I returned to the States, with a degree in Bible already under my belt, I began a personal two year indepth Bible study on the subject of healing. I also wanted to know all I could about essential oils from a scriptual perspective.
It was out of that study that I realized how little so-called modern American Christians really know about God's love and desire to care for our bodies. But more: I realized many Christians are clueless about how the Gospel of Jesus Christ is all inclusive of healing, and how the words "save" and "heal" were used interchangeably in the Bible. My own faith grew by leaps and bounds, having learned so much from this study.
From that study I realized there was a huge need to educate my brothers and sisters in the Lord concerning their bodies. This is the background of how God's Healing Word ministry came into being.
As I studied, I came to understand essential oils just weren't mankind's oldest form of medicine, they are part of God's design for our survival in a world filled with evil.
This evil takes many forms, including the evil in man's heart that places profits over the well-being of fellow human beings. You can apply that statement to many schemes. The biggest scheme out there that applies to well-being and health is our modern day medical system. For it is corrupted with men and women who place prestige, power and money over human health.
Granted there are a growing number of dedicated physicians and medical centers who are genuinely interested in our health and well-being, but they are small in number and struggle to get their story out to the public. That's because there are just too many greed motivated interests who have a greater voice over how modern medicine is practiced.
Of all people, Christians should know better and be wary of such greed motivated interests. You would think their churches would spend time biblically educating them in God's role for their health. But alas, many church leaders themselves lack the most basic understanding of how and why our bodies belong to God. They separate body and soul, thinking only of saving the soul when the body is just as important as is the soul. For man is not man without
both body and soul united.
That is what makes death so vile, it separates body and soul so man ceases to exist as man. This is what the saving, healing Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about. For it is the power of the Gospel to reunite body and soul in the resurrection that we can live as human beings once again.
God's perfect will is not that you be healed. Rather God's perfect will is that you never get sick or sin. We know from Scripture sin and sickness are part of this world, and so death comes upon us all.
As for your body, it must die. However, nowhere does it say in the Bible that you must die from sickness. This is something most of us bring on ourselves. I say most only because there are also environmental hazards that can and do cause death.
For most of us, our undoing is our own lifestyle. This includes not only foods we eat we should avoid, but also the kinds of medicine we should avoid but jump to when sick.
Churches are filled with chronically ill believers who do not know God as their healer. They only know secular medicine (the word secular means without God).
So I ask the question. How would you medicate without drugstores? Where and to whom would you turn for help should drugstores not exist as they did in the Soviet Union back in 1990-91?
This may seem like a simpleton question, but it bares out our spiritual ignorance of God's love for us, and the provision He placed in the plant kingdom for our well being, health and longevity...Essential Oils!
Once I realized the importance of essential oils, I began searching for a reliable source to obtain them. I wasn't even sure at the time if such a source existed. Then a friend providentially put me on to Young Living Essential Oils. Not knowing much about the difference in quality, she taught me in order for essential oils to be therapeutic, they must be distilled under low pressure and low heat
(a time consuming process). They must be pure, not containing chemical additives to increase production.
She told me many essential oils found in retail health stores are not pure and were not therapeutic. Young Living Essential Oils are therapeutic grade and pure. Yes, they cost more because of the way they are produced, but they work, they are among the finest essential oils found anywhere on earth. And so, I placed my first order with Young Living and became a distributor.
At the time I became a distributor so I could purchase the oils wholesale. But since that time I have told many others about Young Living Essential Oils and have over the past 15 years enjoyed a full time income as a distributor. I recommend Young Living Essential Oils because I have personally seen how they save lives. I can't imagine my life without them ever again.
That's my story. I hope you are encouraged by my sharing it. More than anything, as Christians, we want to be aligned with God's will in our lives. Essential oils are called essential for good reason. They are called essential oils because they are essential to our well-being
and longevity. I trust you will find both in them as you have found God to be in your life.

I have been a body worker/healer for 26 years now. I was very drawn to essential oils for a long time and would collect them from health food stores, from fairs, festivals, wherever I could find them. I used about 20 different brands of oils for over 14 years. My friend Sophia told me about Young Living oils 12 years ago. She said, “Julie you have to check these oils out” and my exact response to her was, “NO I DON’T!” at that time I was no longer using any of the 20 different brands as I NEVER saw even one effect, and eventually lost interest in them. They were now sitting in a zip lock bag in my bathroom drawer.

I tell you I felt a HUGE lift of the heaviness over my heart that was absolutely undeniable. I went from total sadness and grief to a true feeling of joy in just a few minutes. It was astounding!!! I had never in my 14 years experienced such a profound emotional shift in neither myself nor those of my clients in such a short time. I can stand in truth and tell you to this day, after 26 years of experiencing all kinds of healing modalities, have never seen such profound consistent, transformational shifts on both physical and emotional levels for myself and those of my clients.
At that time too, I had been begging for God, the universe, whoever, whatever to bring me something to help myself as a healer and to help my clients change, uplift and transform deeper and differently. I was so burned out as a very in demand and busy bodyworker that I was ready to give it all up. Well, I got my prayers answered and now 12 years later my prayers are still answered.
I don’t care if a client comes in with a heart break, a sore back, a flu, digestive problems, hormonal problems, a cut, bug bites, scoliosis, foggy brain, memory loss, hearing loss, muscle spasms, lack of motivation in life, apathy, I know without a doubt, the Young Living oils will work and I can truly count on them!
I love Gary Young and the whole company. He is a man of such great wisdom and integrity. He educates us and shares his vast wealth of knowledge. There are no hidden corners with this man or with the company. It is full of deep integrity. I can stand behind what I speak because I have spent the last 9 years going to the Young Living farms in France, Utah, Idaho and Ecuador to participate in planting, harvesting and distilling our oils. I had to go and see for myself what goes into making our oils. I wanted to see how in integrity Young Living is and it is 100%! Oh and by the way…. The reason I never saw not even one result with any of these other 20 brands of oils was because each and every one were adulterated and NOT therapeutic grade oils like Young Living. I have a second home in Ashland, Oregon and can afford to be deeply involved with my spiritual path and take time off from being the busy healer. And really to this day I still do not do Young Living as a business I just help people who need guidance with their health and healing and get paid to do so.

Construction of the new 150,000 square-foot office building is scheduled for completion in 2011 and will house all of Young Living's corporate operations and a product will-call. Young Living anticipates that this structure will incorporate the latest construction technology and emphasize "green" building practices.
Steve Bentley, Chief Financial Officer at Young Living, states, "With the great freeway access and central location of this new, state-of-the-art office space, we will have what we need to become a billion-dollar-a-year company."
July 11, 2008 - Young Living Essential Oils is pleased to be named one of Utah's Top 100 Private Companies in the May 2008 issue of Utah Business magazine, Utah's only statewide business publication. And while this annual list is ranked by number of full-time employees, Utah Business magazine points out that, "these companies construct your communities, educate your children, secure your finances, keep you healthy and provide you with a good meal, all while staying on top of their respective industries."
* July 12, 2008 - On the July 11 episode of NBC's Today show, Dr. Susan Wagner, an animal neurologist, along with animal behaviorist Dr. Terry Curtis promoted the use of Young Living essential oils.
During the Today's Pets segment, Dr. Wagner addressed the fear issues of several dogs including Bailey, a Labrador mix, who is afraid of water. Dr. Wagner suggested the use of lavender essential oil as a treatment option for Bailey's phobia, and explained that, "When we talk about essential oils, we're not talking about fragrances that you buy at a bath and beauty store - these are therapeutic-grade essential oils, and lavender is one of the most calming plants. So we can take a couple drops of oil and put it on a piece of clothing next to Bailey or even one drop and rub it between the hands and rub it down the back and it has an amazing calming effect."
When Today host Meredith Vieira asked if the lavender essential oil was enough to make Bailey not scared of water any more, Dr. Wagner, author of Through a Dog's Ear: Using Sound to Improve the Health and Behavior of Your Canine Companion, replied, "It will definitely help."
